Our highly skilled team at Creative Smiles work with our patients throughout the course of their gum disease treatment. We make sure that the treatment cures any disease that is present and also provide patient education throughout the process to ensure that preventative action is taken in the future.
Bad breath, swollen or puffy gums and blood when brushing are all signs of gum disease, also known as gingivitis. If it’s left untreated, it can lead to periodontal disease and ultimately, tooth loss.
A number of different factors can hamper the immune system’s response to fighting bacteria that causes gum disease. Lifestyle choices such as diet, stress, smoking and diabetes can have a negative effect, however some people are naturally more susceptible than others.
The more serious form of gum disease, periodontal disease affects the supporting structures and tissues around the teeth. The gum will start receding and bone loss can occur – this then causes teeth to loosen and eventually fall out.
Initially, any tartar caused by the bacteria will be removed from the gum line by scaling the teeth. However, if the disease has destroyed any of the supporting elements of the teeth, the bacteria and calculus will be cleaned from underneath the gum.
Periodontal treatment is provided over a course of appointments, of which the duration will vary depending on the severity of the case. Patients who suffer from a more severe form of gum disease will often be provided with antibiotics in order to fight any remaining infection.
During an initial appointment, our dentist will work with the patient to draw up a bespoke treatment plan.
With every patient’s case being different, it’s not possible to provide an accurate indication of costs without a prior consultation. However, for an up to date list of our from prices, please head to our treatment fees page.
